Grant Aid

Each year, Opportunity Scholars & the Mercer University Offices of Student Financial Planning offer eligible first and second year Opportunity Scholars participants the opportunity to receive grant aid funding. Receiving Grant Aid is contingent upon fulfilling the guidelines established in the Opportunity Scholars Contract. Students will be invited to attend a meeting at which contracts will be distributed. Students are encouraged to meet with their Opportunity Scholars counselors to address any questions or concerns they have about the contract. Minimum requirements are listed below:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current Opportunity Scholars participant in their first or second year of postsecondary education
  • Currently eligible for the Federal Pell Grant
  • Have a high level of unmet need

In addition, a minimum of each of the following (as determined by Opportunity Scholars staff) is required to comply with the contract:

  • Four Opportunity Scholars workshops each semester
  • Three approved* tutoring sessions throughout each semester
  • Two counselor contacts each semester
  • One completed FAFSA
  • Maintain a minimum of a 2.50 Cumulative G.P.A

*Approved tutoring includes documented evidence showing attendance in:

  • Academic Resource Center (ARC) OR
  • "SI" sessions & professor-lead sessions OR
  • Approved tutor as assigned by the Opportunity Scholars staff
