Scholarships for first year students

Each year, Student Support Services (SSS) & The Mercer University Office of Financial Planning offer eligible first year SSS Participants the opportunity to receive grant aid funding. Receiving Grant Aid is contingent upon fulfilling the guidelines established in the Student Support Services Contract. Students will be invited to attend a meeting at which contracts will be distributed. Students are encouraged to meet with their SSS Counselors to address any questions or concerns they have about the contract. Minimum requirements are listed below:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current SSS Participant in their first year of postsecondary education
  • Currently Receiving Federal Pell Grant
  • Have a High Level of Unmet Need or Need for Loan Forgiveness

In addition, a minimum of each of the following (as determined by SSS staff) is required to comply with the contract:

  • Counselor Contacts each Semester
  • SSS Workshops each Semester
  • Receive approved* tutoring throughout the academic year
  • Submit and review the 4 week progress report each semester (and mid-term report, if requested)
  • Maintain a minimum of a 2.50 Cumulative G.P.A

*Approved tutoring includes documented evidence showing attendance in:


  • Academic Resource Center (ARC) or 
  • "SI" sessions & professor-lead sessions or
  •  Minority Mentor Program Tutoring or
  •  Approved tutor as assigned by the SSS staff.
